  • KS1 New Curriculum and Classes for 2017-2018

    Thu 29 Jun 2017

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for attending our KS1 parents meetings this week.  Your children are looking forward to working with a new teacher from September and we would like to welcome Mr Hunt and Miss Hill to our KS1 team.

We are excited about our new Learning Journey curriculum and to using a rich and practically resourced approach to Mathematics.  Children’s knowledge of blending phonemes to read and writing graphemes to spell will continue in Phonics lessons at the beginning of the day.

We have considered how to group our children this year as previously children have been set by ability.  After speaking to Mr Rowe at Tipton Green and other advisors who help us in school we have decided to teach children in mixed ability classes which will prepare them for the Junior School and meet the needs of all our children.  Equality of opportunity is important to us at Silvertrees and the move away from setting will give all our children the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential.

Children working in sets were often taught in a different group to their special friends and now children will be in class for all lessons and have the opportunity to develop their friendships throughout the day.  Our children see their friends from all classes at play time and lunch time and they will continue to do this.

I am very proud of all the children at Silvertrees and we have had a lovely year where children have developed their knowledge and skills in the classroom and made many friends who they will take with them to new schools and meet again in their new classes in September.

    Kind regards

    Mrs Garratt

  • A big thank you to all children at Silvertrees

    Tue 20 Jun 2017

Last week, a team of tennis coaches came into school to deliver tennis sessions to our children. All of the children enjoyed learning about tennis and how to play. Once the sessions had finished the tennis coaches said how wonderful the children had been throughout the sessions and how well they picked up the game of tennis. Below is an email sent from one of the tennis coaches to our Head Teacher after the sessions.

'Our tennis coaches from Tipton Sports Academy recently visited Silvertrees Academy to deliver our Schools tennis roadshow, which is aimed at getting lots of young people to try tennis and hopefully inspiring them to play more tennis in future.

The staff and children at the School were very welcoming and helpful, with all children from reception, year 1 and year 2 taking part in the fun tennis sessions. We would like to thank all of the staff at your School, who were very supportive in helping to set up and deliver the sessions and being very encouraging to the children taking part.

All of the children were given a free session voucher to come and try tennis at Tipton Sports Academy, so we hope to see some pupils taking part in more tennis!

If anyone would like further information on our tennis programme at Tipton Sports Academy (including staff and parents!) please email or call Lee Marks – Tennis Operations Officer: lee.marks@slt-leisure.co.uk – 07818 404949

Thanks again for letting us into your lovely school. Craig Unitt'

We would like to thank the tennis coaches at Tipton Sports Academy for coming into school and teaching our children about the game of tennis and for their lovely words about our children. Also a big well done to all of children for taking part in the tennis roadshow sessions.
