Summer 1 Week 4

This week we will be using ‘Polly Phonics’ again to help us practise Phase 3 sounds

 

Monday –

 

Use the PowerPoint in the resources at the bottom of the page to recap all of the Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds.

After you have done this, use the tricky word PowerPoint to recap tricky words. How many can you remember?

Before we start…you will need a pencil and some paper OR you can use your writing book.

Last week you learnt the following sounds:

oo ar or er

Now watch the video:

 

After each picture in the video, have a go at using your robot arms to sound out the word and write down the sounds that you can hear.

Now use ‘ow real and nonsense’ from the resource section. Have a go at reading the words on the page, if you read a REAL word jump, if you read a NONSENSE word clap. You can choose your own actions. Remember to use your robot arms to help you segment and blend.

 

Challenge – If you were a cow or an owl what would you do? Have a think.

Write I sentence…”If I was a cow…” Can you finish it?

 

Tuesday –

Use the PowerPoint in the resources at the bottom of the page to recap all of the Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds.

After you have done this, use the tricky word PowerPoint to recap tricky words. Did you remember more than yesterday?

Before we start…you will need a pencil and some paper OR you can use your writing book.

Now click on ‘oi’ and watch the video.

 

Now pause the video at each picture, can you use your robot arms to segment and blend the word, then have a go at writing it.

Now play Buried Treasure to practise reading words with the ‘oi’ sound in.

Challenge: Write a list of as many oi words you can think of, your family can help you too. Then pick one of words to write a sentence about.

e.g. I have got a coin.

 

Wednesday –

After you have done this, use the tricky word PowerPoint to recap tricky words. Did you remember more than yesterday?

Before we start…you will need a pencil and some paper OR you can use your writing book.

Now play snowball:

 

 

Get an adult to help you, write as many ear words as you can think of on small pieces of paper, if you have post it notes, even better!

Here are some words to get you started: ear, near, dear, beard, fear, year...

Now choose a word and segment and blend it using your robot arms, read it 3 times.

Next screw your word up throw it in the middle and choose a new one, keep going until you’ve read all the words.

 

Challenge – choose one of the words and write a sentence about it. See if you can use at least one tricky word in your sentence (the more the better).

 

Thursday –

Now pause the video at each picture, can you use your robot arms to segment and blend the word, then have a go at writing it.

 

 

Now play Cross the River:     

                                 

Create a magic river eg. A scarf or blanket. Get your adult to be the master, they will read the words to you, if you can write them and spell them, they you can cross the river!

Child: Master, Master can I cross your magic river?

Adult: Only if you can spell, chair, ch-air.

Chair, pair, fair, lair, hair

 

Challenge: Choose 1 of your words, can you write it in a sentence? Remember to use tricky words!

 

 

Friday –

After each picture in the video, have a go at using your robot arms to sound out the word and write down the sounds that you can hear.

 

Now play WORD HUNT:

Get a grown up to write some ‘er’ words down and hide them around your house or in the garden. Eg. Ladder, herb, farmer, fern, perm, her, verb.    Can you go on a word hunt and find them? Remember to use your robot arms to help you segment and blend the words.

Challenge: When you find the words, can you use each of them in a verbal sentence?
