This week we will continue to apply Phase 3 sounds using ‘Polly Phonics’
This week we will be recapping the following sounds:
ur ow oi ear
Monday –
Use the PowerPoint in the resources at the bottom of the page to recap all of the Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds.
After you have done this, use the tricky word PowerPoint to recap tricky words. How many can you remember?
Before we start…you will need a pencil and some paper OR you can use your writing book.
Last week you learnt the following sounds:

Today we are going to applying the sound

If you need some help to say the sound or you have forgotten it, click on the sound, using the link provided and watch the video.
Get an adult to write down these words and see how many you can read, using your robot arms:
Burn, turn, burp, curl, hurt, surf, turf
Now practise reading and writing these words, playing countdown
Set a 1 minute or 30 second timer, how many of the words can you read in that time? Then set the timer again, how many words can you write in that time?
Challenge – Choose one word and write a sentence about it.
e.g. Can I have a turn?

Down, how, owl, bow, wow, now, howl, cow, gown
Use the link and click on the activities section, then scroll down the games and select ‘sorting sounds (ur and ow)’
Challenge – Choose one word and write a sentence about it.
e.g. The owl went down the tree.

Finally, lets practise writing some oi words, playing cross the river
Child: “Master, master can I cross your magic river”
Adult: “Only if you can spell the word …” (use above words)
Child to cross the magic river when they have written the word correctly, allow them to have a go at doing this on their own first.
Challenge – Choose one word and write a sentence about it.
e.g. Can I dig in the soil?

Now scroll down to the sounds we are learning this week and click on the game – sorting sounds oo/or (sorting sounds pic oi/ear)
Finally, lets practise writing some or words.
Get an adult to read out the words and have a go at writing as many as you can in 2 minutes (try and do it by yourself, using your robot arms).
