Summer 2 Week 2

Welcome to another week of Literacy home learning!

I wonder- can you remember what last week’s story was?

RUN RUN as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m…?

The gingerbread man

We hope you enjoyed this story and all the learning you did!

This week our book focus is… Jack and the beanstalk

Monday 8th June 2020

Listen to Mrs Lowe read the story in the files below

Now try answering these questions about the story:

Who are the main characters?

Where is the story set?

What is problem or problems?

How do the problems get resolved? (The solution)

WOW WORD OF THE WEEK

Enormous

Definition: very large in size.

Say it in a BIG voice, a silly voice, a quiet voice

The beanstalk was enormous!

Task-

Watch the video of Mrs Lowe reading the story from her story map

After you have watched it and listened- watch it again and try and join in with the re-telling of the story. There some actions to help to.

Tuesday 9th June 2020

Re-cap the story

Jack and the beanstalk

Watch the video again and try and join in with Mrs Lowe

Re-cap work of the week – ENORMOUS

What does it mean?

Can you use that word in a sentence?

Task-

Think about the bad character in this story-

Who was it?

What did the Giant want to do to Jack?

Today we are going to create a WANTED POSTER

This is to help catch the Giant so he can’t eat anyone!

Use the template in the resources or plain paper to draw the giant-

What do you think he looks like?

Once you have drawn him-

Write underneath to tell people what to look for.

e.g Can you help us find the jIant

He is big and scairee

He has got black boots.

Remember- using phonics to spell the words is great! They don’t need to be corrected to correct spellings.

Jack and the beanstalk

Re-cap work of the week – ENORMOUS

Can you think of something enormous in your home?

Task-

Imagine an enormous beanstalk grew in your garden!

-

What would you like to see at the top of the beanstalk amongst all of the fluffy clouds? What do you think you would find?

Tell a grown up your ideas using the sentence starter-

I think that…

Using the template in the resources section or in your writing book-

Write down your idea

I think that…

You can draw a picture of your idea in the clouds too!

Thursday 11th June 2020

Re-cap the story

Jack and the beanstalk

Watch the video again and join in with Mrs Lowe

Re-cap work of the week – ENORMOUS

Can you think of something that is NOT enormous?

What word could we use for that?

Task-

Today we are going to be the giant!

Can you make yourself look enormous!

What would his face do?

How would he walk?

Now the Giant is going to write a letter to Jack-

What might he say?

Sorry? Why is he sorry?

Maybe he’s sorry for scaring Jack or trying to eat him.

Maybe he is not sorry and he is still cross with Jack!

Think about what you would say to Jack if you were the giant and using the template in the resources or your writing book- use your phonics sounds and tricky words to write a letter to Jack. Can you read it back to a grown up?
