Phonics – Week 11

 

Monday 6th July:

  • Visit Phonics Play and login in using these details:

  • Click the Resources tab at the top of the screen and select Phase 5.
  • Scroll down to find and click on Investigating Alternative Spellings - ow. Play the 3 games to explore the different graphemes – ow, ou, ough.
  • Challenge: choose another alternative spellings game on Phonics Play and write a list of words that have the same sound but different graphemes!

 

 

 

Tuesday 7th July:

  • Visit Phonics Bloom and play Phonics Frog - follow this link:

  • Revise all Phase 5 sounds by clicking on the frog to hop over the road and land on real words – make sure you check the words are spelt correctly using the correct digraphs! Watch out for the traffic – don’t get squashed!
  • Challenge: open the Phase 5 phoneme spotter document below and make a list of all of the split digraph words that you spot! Now choose 3 of the words that you found and write your own sentences with those words in.

 

 

Wednesday 8th July:

  • Visit ICT Games and play Phonics Finder – follow this link:

  • Choose a grapheme that you want to focus on and complete the word search by clicking the first letter and last letter of the word.
  • Challenge: create your very own word search based on a topic of your choice – it could be about the season of summer, animals or even families!

Thursday 9th July:

  • Click the Resources tab at the top of the screen and select Phase 1.
  • Scroll down to find and play Cake Bake by choosing words that rhyme with your chosen item.
  • Remember: rhyming words are words that sound the same.
  • Challenge: open the Rhyming Words document below and write 3 words that rhyme with each given word. Now see if you can make up a little poem using those words.
  • For example: There once was a cat,

                Who wore a woolly hat,

                        She spent all day lying on her stripy mat. 

 

 

Friday 10th July:

  • Visit Espresso – follow this link from our school website: https://www.silvertreesacademy.co.uk/espresso/
  • Now click on Key Stage 1, English and scroll down to and click on Phonics.
  • Now click on Sally’s Phonics and select ch – ture, tch.
  • Watch the video and then complete the Sorting by Spelling game.
  • Now click back and play the Spelling game – focusing on the different ways of spelling ch.
