Phonics Week Commencing 8th June 2020

Monday 8th June:

  • Visit Phonics Play and login in using these details:

  • Now click on the Phases tab on the left of the screen and click Phase 1.
  • Scroll down the page and click on the game Super Smoothie. This game is all about Alliteration – when words start with the same sound!
  • Challenge: open the alliteration task sheet below and have a go!

 

Tuesday 9th June:

  • Visit ICT Games and play Forest Phonics – follow this link: https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/forestPhonics/index.html
  • Choose a sound to focus on and spell the given words correctly – listen carefully!
  • Challenge: create your own version of Word Snap – write 2 sets of Year 2 words onto pieces of paper (these could be ones you find tricky to read or spell). Then shuffle your word cards and share them out with another play. Hold them face down and take it in turns to place a card on the pile, if it matches the card already on the table then SNAP! You win the pile of cards – first player to hold all the word cards wins!

 

Wednesday 10th June:

 

  • Visit Phonics Bloom to play Sentence Substitution  – follow this link: https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/sentence-substitution?phase=4#
  • Read the sentence on the screen and then substitute or swap some of the words to create a new sentence that makes sense!
  • Challenge: open the Phase 4 Challenges document below and see if you can complete some of them!

 

 

 

Thursday 11th June:

  • Now click on the Phases tab on the left of the screen and click Phase 6.
  • Scroll down the page and click on the game Pond Life Plurals. This game is all about learning to change singular words to plurals by following rules. Remember - plural means more than 1!
  • Challenge: go on a hunt around your house and collect 5 different items. Now, using the rules you learnt from the game, change those items to plurals.
  • Example: spoon = spoons, dish = dishes, book = books

 

Friday 12th June:

  • Visit Espresso – follow this link from our school website: https://www.silvertreesacademy.co.uk/espresso/
  • Now click on Key Stage 1, English and then click Grammar & Punctuation.
  • Now click on Word, and watch the video about adding –ing, -ed and –er to the end of words.
  • Play the games after you have watched the video and see if you can sort and add the suffixes to words to different words.
  • Challenge: open the Suffix challenge document below and choose the correct word to complete the sentences.
