Phonics – Week 9

 

Monday 22nd June:

  • Visit Phonics Play and login in using these details:

Username – march20    Password – home

  • Click on Resources at the top of the screen and select Phase 5. Scroll down to find and play the Acorn Adventures game. Select a grapheme and sort the words according to how the grapheme is pronounced.
  • Challenge: choose another grapheme and see if you can list words that contain this grapheme, but are pronounced differently. For example: ea = leaf, bread

 

 

Tuesday 23rd June:

  • Visit ICT Games and play Tell a T-Rex – follow this link: https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/tellATRex/index.html
  • Choose a sound to focus on and read the questions using your blending skills. Then select the tick or cross if you think the answer is Yes or No.
  • Challenge: create your own set of Yes or No questions to play a game with your family. You could use some of the ideas from the Tell a T-Rex game

 

 

Wednesday 24th June:

  • Visit Phonics Play and login in using these details:

  • Click on Resources at the top of the screen and select Phase 5. Scroll all the way down to find and play the Compound Word Splat game. Choose a text and splat all of the compound words!
  • Remember – a compound word is two simple words joined together to make a new word.
  • For example: butter and fly are joined to make a new word – butterfly.
  • Challenge: open the Compound Words document below and complete the activity.

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday 25th June:

  • Visit Espresso – follow this link from our school website: https://www.silvertreesacademy.co.uk/espresso/
  • Now click on Key Stage 1, English and scroll down to and click on Phonics.
  • Now click on Ash’s Phonics, Activities and play the ay, a-e games.
  • Challenge: open the Phoneme Spotter Story document below and find all of the words that contain the ay, ai or a_e graphemes. You can make a list of them in your book then try to put some of these words into sentences of your own.  

 

 

Friday 26th June:

  • Visit Phonics Play and login in using these details:

  • Click on Resources at the top of the screen and select Phase 6. Scroll all the way down to find and play Magical Matching by making pairs of words. One card will have a word on, and it’s matching pair will have the opposite word on that contains a prefix.
  • A prefix is added to the start of a word and it changes the meaning of that word.
  • For example: kind – unkind, loyal – disloyal, happy – unhappy.
