Phonics Week 8

Year 1 Week 8 Phonics Home Learning

For our Phonics work we will be using the Phonics Play website and Espresso – remember you can get free access to Phonics Play using the username: march20 and Password: home

 

This week we are going to be revisiting some of the sounds we have looked at before that we often find tricky.

 

Monday 15th June:

Focus sound – ar

Read the ar words below and then practise writing them adding your sound buttons.

 

         bark      carpet      farmer      sharp      artist     start

 

Practise writing these words in your books, remember to add the dots and dashes. Can you think of a sentence using one or more of these words?

 

Read through the ar phoneme spotter below. See if you can find all of the different ar words and write them in a list.

 

Tuesday 16th June:

Focus sound – ey

Read the ey words below and then practise writing them adding your sound buttons.          

 

     key      monkey      chimney       money      turkey     donkey

 

Practise writing these words in your books. Can you think of a sentence using one or more of these words?

 

Now visit Phonics Play and play Buried Treasure reading and sorting the real and nonsense ey words.

 

 

Wednesday 17th June:

Focus sound – ur

Read the ur words below and then practise writing them adding your sound buttons.

 

      church      nurse      purple       burn      Thursday     purse

 

Practise writing these words in your books. Can you think of a sentence using one or more of these words?

 

Have a look at the pictures below. Can you find the ur pictures and write out the words to match?

 

 

Thursday 18th June:

Focus sound – or

Read the or words below and then practise writing them adding your sound buttons.

 

         torch     storm      short       north      corn     thorn               

 

Practise writing these words in your books. Can you think of a sentence using one or more of these words?

 

Visit Phonics Play and play Picnic on Pluto. Can you read and sort the real and nonsense or words?

 

Challenge: Can you write down all of the other graphemes that you can think of that also make the or sound? Try to think of a word for each sound you can think of. Remember to take a picture to send us to show us your fantastic work.

 

Friday 19th June:

Today we are going to be using our reading skills to read a short story about The Zoo Vet. Then, there are some comprehension questions for you to answer about what you have read, or have had read to you.
