Monday 6th July
Word of the week - furious
Whisper it, shout it, say it in a funny voice.
furious – definition –to be really angry.
Try writing it in 3 different ways.
furious furious FURIOUS
Can you think of any other words that mean the same as furious? I bet you find loads this week.
Remember we read all about Zog going to dragon school and in the end he, Princess Pearl and Sir Gadabout decided to become Flying Doctors. Well here’s a story all about some of the adventures they had.
Our book this week is Zog and the Flying Doctors another book by Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler.
Here is a video of the story:- https://youtu.be/idZ4cFynDEM
Now try answering these questions about the story. Try writing you answers down today.
What was the story about?
Who are the main characters?
Do you think Zog likes his job?
What should the Mermaid have done to stop herself from getting sunburn?
Do you think Pearl was furious with her uncle?
If you were Princess Pearl would you want to help your uncle?
What job would you like to do when you are all grown up?
What was your favourite part? Why?
Tuesday 7th July
Try writing a sentence using our word of the week.
In the story Princess Pearl uses lots of ingredients in her medicine which are from ‘mythical’ creatures. (You wouldn’t be able to find these in real life).
Using Resource Sheet 1: Interesting ingredients try to think of ingredients that Princess Pearl could gather from each of the mythical creatures, for instance the horn of a unicorn, or hair from its mane or tail. From a dragon they might collect dragon’s breath, dragon skin, dragon scales, or dragon horn. Write down all of your ideas.
Wednesday 8th July In order to make her medicines, Princess Pearl needs to use a recipe. I think she might write them herself.
Can you remember writing instructions before? We used lots of imperative/bossy verbs. Your task today is to make a list of as many of these verbs as you can. Try looking in recipe books or at instructions on how to play games. Remember you need verbs which tell people what to do
Eg. mix, beat, whisk, turn, put …
Thursday 9th July
Try writing your own recipe for a ‘mythical medicine’ which Princess Pearl might use. Some of your ideas from Tuesday should be useful.
First of all write a list of ingredient, then write down your method. Remember when writing your method – use bossy verbs.
You might find Resource sheet 2 useful.
Friday 3rd July
Using Resource Sheet 3: Bottled up take a white crayon or a candle, draw swirling patterns inside the bottle before using watercolour paints to paint inside the bottle shape. Can you see that the patterns and swirls you have drawn in white crayon resist the watercolour paint and leave an effect that makes your medicine look magical. To complete your design, write what illness your medicine will cure on the label. You can also write a little note saying how much of the medicine to take and when to take it.
