English Week Commencing 1st June 2020

Monday 1st June

Word of the week  - pouncing

Whisper it, shout it, say it in a funny voice.

Pouncing - definition-spring at or swoop suddenly!

Try writing it in 3 different ways.

Pouncing        pouncing          pouncing

Can you think of any other words that mean the same as pouncing? Make a list.

Our book this week is Tabby McTat by Julia Donaldson.

Here is a video of the story:-

Now try answering these questions about the story.

What is a busker? Have you ever seen one?

What was the story about?

Who are the main characters?

What was your favourite part? Why?

Tuesday 2nd June

Try writing a sentence using our word of the week - pouncing.

Look at this picture of Tabby McTat and Sock. How would you describe Tabby? Now think about how different Socks looks. What words would you use to describe her? Listen to/read the words used in the story, can you add some more.

Try writing a short description of both of them.

Wednesday 3rd June

How do you think Fred, the busker, feels when he can’t find his cat? How might he go about finding him? Could you design a ‘Wanted’ poster to help Fred find Tabby? Think about the information you need to put on it ( description, last seen, who to contact). Of course you need to draw a lovely picture of Tabby and don’t forget to tell everyone how he loves to sing.

We’d love to see your posters – get your Mom or Dad to email them to us.

Thursday  4th June & Friday 5th June

Look at these two sentences using 'pouncing'. One makes sense, one doesn't. Can you work out which is which?

Tabby had a pouncing time.

The cat loved chasing and pouncing on the toy mouse.

Use the comic strip template to draw and write a comic strip about all the things that Tabby likes to do in his new home. Here’s an example.

McTat liked to nibble the chicken.

There’s lots of examples in the story so we’ve given you two days to do this. You might be able to think of some others.
