Year 1 Summer 2 Week 1
English Home Learning Week 6
Monday 1st June
Our book this week is Oi Frog!
If you've got the book ask someone to read it to you or read it through yourself, if not you can look at the video below:
Discuss the book with someone in your family.
Can you tell them something that you like about the book and something that you don’t like about the book? Now have a go at writing out the sentences that you said. Challenge yourself to use because. Eg. I liked the book because…. I didn’t like the book because…… My favourite part was….. because…..
Let us know your opinions of the book.
Tuesday 2nd June
Rhyming words
Have another look at the book Oi Frog! As you read or listen to the book make a list of all of the rhyming words that you can find. Can you continue the rhyming strings for any of the words?
Eg frog, log, dog, cog
Wednesday 3rd June
Today we are going to look at the book Oi Dog!
If you've got the book ask someone to read it to you or read it through yourself, if not you can look at the video below:
How is this book different to Oi Frog!?
The dog decides to change the rules and make the animals sit on new objects that rhyme.
Today we want you to choose 5 different animals from the stories, or you can use your own animals if you would like to, and try to think of as many different places that your animal could sit that rhyme.
Thursday 4th June
Today we would like you to have a go at writing your own rhyming sentences for the five animals that you chose yesterday, just like in the books Oi Frog! And Oi Dog!.
Eg Cats sit on bats.
You could illustrate your sentences with your own pictures of your animals sitting on different things.
Why don’t you film yourself performing your rhyming sentences? We would love to see you using loud, clear voices and trying to use as much expression as you can. If you do film yourself, remember to send the videos to us so we can see your wonderful performance.
Friday 5th June
Today is all about performing. We would like you to practise and try to learn the poem below called The Wind by Christina Rosetti.
Watch the video below of Michael Rosen performing the poem Lunchtime. Look at how he changes his voices and uses actions to help perform his poem.
Now see if you can have a go at performing the poem The Wind. How might you change your voice? What actions could you use? Practise performing your poem lots of times, see if you can get someone in your family to join in with you. When you are feeling confident with your performance ask someone to film you so that you can send your performances to us to watch. We know you will do an amazing job.
